About the Role

The candidate will serve as the creative technologist within an innovation team. Equipped with extensive knowledge and experience in music technology, including sound analysis, synthesis, spatial design, content development, the candidate is expected to conduct research, drive innovation, and build prototypes — both independently and in collaboration with teammates from diverse backgrounds. Although projects often relate to Harman Consumer Products such as Soundbars, Portable Speakers, and Headphones, there are no limits to where innovation can lead.


What You Will Do

  • Function as the music technology expert in the innovation team, provide insight into future possibilities using AI and new technology on sound analysis, synthesis, music generation, UX design, and lead innovations with your unique strength and background
  • Innovate and design new sound experience and systems, build prototypes and simulations with colleagues as the research advances
  • Research into cutting edge music information retrieval, music generation and content development technologies, and extending experience into visual, touch, and senses beyond sound
  • Engage in essential support activities that are foundational to our innovation process, including patent drafting, documentation, communications with engineering team when an innovation is under product development journey

What You Need to Be Successful

    • A deep passion for audio, music, and entertainment technology
    • MS or above degrees in EE/CS/Music, PhD preferred
    • 3+ years of experience in audio and music industry supporting large-scale consumer products
    • Deep understanding of music theories and great aesthetics sensibilities when experiential quality extends beyond technical specifications
    • A great passion of learning in the field and actively using latest / greatest technology and AI tools for music analysis and generation, authoring
    • Proficiency and deep understanding of design, production and prototyping tools such as processing, Max, Jitter, Reaper, Ableton Live, Arena, Resolume, etc
       

    Bonus Points if You Have

      • A strong background in classical signal processing techniques with audio and acoustics focus
      • A strong background in AI, esp. generative AI regarding music and media
      • Extensive coding experience in Matlab, C, C++, Node.js, and Java
      • Prior startup experience or internal innovation experience in corporations
      • Musicianship
