About the Role

As a Creative Technologist within our innovation team, you will leverage your deep expertise in music technology and your ability to integrate AI tools into creative workflows. With extensive experience in sound analysis, synthesis, spatial design, and content development, you will lead research initiatives, pioneer new ideas, and build prototypes — both independently and collaboratively. Your focus will often be on Harman Consumer Products, including Soundbars, Portable Speakers, Headphones and Lights, but you will have the freedom to explore a wide range of possibilities in audio innovation.


What You Will Do

  • Serve as a Creative Technologist within the innovation team, offering valuable insights on the potential applications of AI and new technologies in sound analysis, synthesis, music generation, and user experience design
  • Lead innovative projects to design and prototype next-generation sound experiences, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams as research and development progresses
  • Leverage AI for generative media (audio, visual, and interactive content) as a daily tool to create and explore new possibilities in music and sound design
  • Conduct advanced research in areas such as music information retrieval, music generation, and content development, with an eye toward extending sensory experiences beyond just sound — including visual and tactile elements
  • Contribute to foundational innovation processes, including patent drafting, documentation, and collaborating with the engineering team as concepts evolve into product development

What You Need to Be Successful

    • A passion for music, audio, and entertainment technology, with a strong drive to explore new creative possibilities
    • An MS or higher degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Science (CS), Music Technology, or a related field. A PhD is preferred
    • 3+ years of experience in the audio or music industry, particularly in supporting large-scale consumer product development
    • A deep understanding of music theory and a strong aesthetic sensibility, with an ability to create experiential quality that goes beyond technical specifications
    • Proficiency in AI tools for generative media (audio-visual content creation), with a solid portfolio of work demonstrating practical application of AI in creative environments
    • Enthusiasm for learning and applying the latest technology, AI tools, and methods for music analysis, generation, and creation
    • Proficiency in design, production, and prototyping tools, including Processing, Max, Jitter, Reaper, Ableton Live, Arena, Resolume, and others

    Bonus Points if You Have

      • A strong background in classical signal processing techniques, particularly in the context of audio and acoustics
      • Expertise in AI and generative AI applied to music and media
      • Extensive coding experience in languages like Matlab, C, C++, Node.js, or Java
      • Startup experience or prior innovation experience in a corporate environment
      • A background in musicianship, enabling a deeper connection to the art of music creation and performance

      Dependent on the position offered, other forms of compensation are also available, such as bonuses or commission.

      Pay is based on a wide range of factors, including, without limitation, skill set, experience, training, location, and business need. While the above range is a reasonable estimate of the wage range for this position, please note the disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographical differential associated with the location where the position may be filled.
