About the Role

The Principal Acoustics Engineer will be responsible for the acoustic design, development, and innovation of consumer speaker products. The role needs to effectively drive for new technology implementations, continuous acoustic package upgrading and innovation to ensure the delivery of industry-leading sound performance, actively support pre-development activities, sound definition, development, and sound tuning processes according to Harman’s guidelines and work instructions.


Your Team

The Principal Acoustics Engineer Work with acoustics team and cross function team to support the design, development, and innovation of consumer speaker products.


What You Will Do

  • Responsible for the acoustic design, development, and innovation of consumer speaker products.
  • Lead the sound conceptualization, acoustic design, implementation and testing of new technologies for consumer speaker products.
  • Design advanced acoustic systems and fine-tune performance for high-quality consumer speaker products, setting new benchmarks in audio industry.
  • Collaborate with various teams to review acoustic related designs, providing expert insights and innovative ideas for optimization.
  • Combine traditional acoustic engineering with advanced DSP technology to push the acoustic performance envelope for consumer speaker products.
  • Drive for innovation, new technology implementations and continuous acoustic package upgrading for consumer speaker products.
  • Support sound quality control in collaboration with Quality and other functional teams.
  • Research new acoustic component or solution to make consumer speaker products unique.
  • Work with global Harman research/engineering team and external research institutes or universities for new technology innovation and applications.
  • Submit minimum of 2 technical patent in the US or Europe.

What You Need

  • Bachelor or above degree of acoustics or related major.
  • 10+ years’ speaker/soundbar acoustic background experience.
  • Strong knowledge in acoustic theory, acoustic test, and acoustic simulation.
  • Proficient in speaker/soundbar acoustic design, sound tuning and subjective evaluation.
  • Proficient in creating specifications, guidelines, and documentation that clearly defines and supports the improvement of the acoustic engineering process.
  • Experience in advanced acoustic solution research.
  • Familiar with acoustic related algorithms and digital signal processing.
  • Proficient in using Soundcheck, Klippel, Audio Precision test system, etc.
  • Familiar with production line level manufacture, assembly, and test system.
  • Experience in working with vendors and contract manufacturers.
  • Ability to quickly get used to new topics as well as a high degree of flexibility.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Can-do attitude and self-motivation.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in both spoken and written English.
