About the Role

The candidate is responsible for researching and developing acoustic algorithm for Harman Consumer Products like Soundbar, Portable Speaker, and Headphone. The candidate need play a leader role to make technical roadmap of acoustic algorithm development and promote them to Business Unit. 

What You Will Do

  • Lead an acoustic algorithm team to support Harman Consumer Audio Business Through relentless NPI project execution to meet SOP commitment to deliver “Industry-First” products.
  • Lead team to research new acoustic algorithm or solution to make Harman Products unique, including but not limited to beamforming, virtual surround, 3d audio effect and audio enhancement.
  • Work with global Harman research/engineering team and external research institutes or universities for new technology innovation and applications.
  • Make acoustic technical roadmap and promote them to business for new product definition.   
  • Combine traditional acoustic engineering with advanced DSP technology to push the acoustic performance envelope for Home Audio. Portable Audio, Headphone products.    
  • Upgrade the workforce in anticipation of future technology needs in the areas of joint system level sound optimization across HW, ME, DSP, SW. 
  • Develop and build acoustic POC prototypes and demonstrate to internal stakeholders.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis and evaluation of algorithm performance using both subjective and objective methods, including listening tests and measurements.
  • Work with DSP engineers for algorithm optimization to cater for target DSP platform resource.
  • Work with Acoustic engineer for algorithm tuning and improvement.
  • Submit minimum of 3 technical patents in the US or Europe per year.

What You Need

  • Master or above degree in Acoustic.
  • Solid acoustic algorithms research and development experience.  like speaker array beamforming, virtual surround, bass or immersive enhancements, up-mixer, sound steer, spatial audio and so on.
  • 10+ years of experience in running an Acoustic team to support large-scale consumer audio business
  • Acoustic algorithm expert to lead/coach the team for new acoustic algorithm research.
  • Proficient in MATLAB, Simulink, PyTorch, or TensorFlow programming
  • Familiar with transducer component and acoustic system architecture design.
  • Good experience on audio product development like Soundbar, Headphone, Smart Speaker, Conference System, hearing aid etc.
  • Good experience on audio tools usage like AudioMulch, Audition, SoundCheck etc.
  • Familiar with acoustic labs and measurement tools (Anechoic chamber, ETSI room, Acqua, SoundCheck)
  • Experience on sound tuning and Golden ear is plus.
  • Good leadership and team management experience.

What is Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with audio hardware design, including transducers, amplifiers, and DSP architectures.
  • Experience with machine learning techniques applied to audio processing, such as deep learning for audio enhancement and personalization.
  • Active participation in audio-related professional organizations, such as the Audio Engineering Society (AES) or the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
  • Publications, patents, or presentations related to acoustic signal processing and audio algorithms.
