About the Role

The Harman design team is calling for talents from all around the world to redefine the future of entertainment. It is a growing multi-disciplinary team with many opportunities, involving Industrial & Graphic Design, User Interface & Experience Design, Packaging, CMF and Digital Design.

We are looking for an adventurous, passionate, and accomplished Industrial designer with world class design sensibility to join our design team in Shenzhen, China.

The right candidate loves music as we do, brings a fresh perspective on design & innovation and has the ability to understand and translate latest fashion, interior and cultural design trends into iconic product experiences for Harman’s iconic brands, including JBL, Harman Kardon and AKG.

The Industrial Designer will take a lead role with hands-on responsibilities working in a very fast-paced, collaborative environment.


Your Team

This position will report to Sr Manager, Industrial Design. 


What You Will Do

  • Take a lead role with hands-on responsibilities.
  • Conduct design brainstorming sessions.
  • Create concept designs in 2D and 3D formats.
  • Prototype designs using in-house and 3rd party resources.
  • Develop detailed product design specifications and CMF documents.
  • Present design solutions.
  • Participate in user research activities.
  • Investigate and propose new fit and finish options and CMF trends.
  • Work on innovative and trend defining product concepts in collaboration with our multi-disciplinary creative teams across the globe.
  • Be part of the team that is creating and delivering innovative and groundbreaking design experiences across various product categories.
  • Work with design leaders in all phases of the design thinking process from concept, to strategic, to tactical, and implementation.

 

What You Need

  • 2+ years of experience in the field of industrial design with an impressive portfolio.
  • Experience in designing consumer products.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the design process¬ from trend research and design strategy to concept development and manufacturing execution.
  • Excellent 2D and 3D skills: fluent in the Adobe Creative Suite and 3D such as Rhinoceros and KeyShot.
  • Experience defining Materials, Colors and Finishes.
  • Ability to create photorealistic renderings.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly driven and proactive self-starter - taking on a task without much context and driving it through to the end.
  • The ability to work seamlessly with leaders across functions.
  • Ability to multi-task many projects and products at once.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Industrial/Product design.
  • Love for Design & Music.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of material cost and finishes, manufacturing processes, tooling methods and assembly methods.
  • Able to quickly generate visual and physical definitions of new products that convey key attributes of function and layout.
  • Proven structured approach to creative problem solving.
  • Self-motivated, strategic and energetic.
